Fire Drill Procedures
At Kelowna Early Explorers Academy, the safety of our children and staff is our highest priority. We conduct monthly fire drills to ensure that everyone knows how to exit the building quickly and safely. During these drills, all children and staff leave the building using the nearest emergency exit.
A Fire Drill Record Chart, including the date and evacuation time, is posted in the office for reference.
Our emergency and evacuation procedures are approved by the local fire department, and both written instructions and evacuation maps are posted at every fire exit. Our centre is inspected annually by the local fire inspector to ensure compliance with all safety regulations.

In each classroom, one designated staff member will collect the attendance sheets and children’s emergency contact cards. This staff member will stand by the nearest exit until all children have safely exited.
All other staff in the room will lead the children calmly through the closest safe exit to the designated outdoor meeting area.
Additional support staff will assist the Infant Room with their evacuation.
The Centre Director will check washrooms, play areas, and all other rooms to ensure no one remains inside. Doors will be closed, and lights will be turned off.
Once outside, children will remain with their group in the designated meeting area until:
Attendance is completed, and all children are accounted for.
